Found This in an Old House… And There Were Hundreds of Them 😳

“Found this in an old house. There’s a ton of them. Any idea what they could be? Why would they store them in the basement?”

At first glance, they almost look like old coins… but they clearly aren’t.

While cleaning out an old house, someone discovered a large box filled with hundreds of strange, flat, oval-shaped pieces of what appears to be metal. Some are dark and heavily weathered, while others have a dull silver-gray appearance.

The really strange part?

There were a LOT of them.

And they were stored in the basement.

So, what could they be?

There are several possibilities.

They could potentially be old metal blanks, lead pieces, industrial materials, casting leftovers, weights, or components from an old manufacturing process. Their irregular shapes and worn surfaces make them look less like ordinary coins and more like something that was produced or used for a specific purpose.

Some old homes also contain materials that were stored for decades because the previous owners intended to reuse, melt down, repair, or sell them later.

Another possibility is that they were connected to an old workshop or business that once operated in or near the property.

Why would someone keep them in the basement?

That may actually be the biggest clue.

Basements were commonly used as storage areas for heavy materials, tools, scrap metal, hardware, and items that weren’t needed every day.

If these pieces are made from lead or another dense metal, storing them downstairs would make sense. A basement could also provide a dry, out-of-the-way place to keep materials for future use.

But without seeing one up close—or knowing the history of the house—it’s difficult to say exactly what they are.
